It's New Year's Eve but Eric, suitably dressed for a party, is alone. For a man who has spent the last 13 years "being in charge of pencils", this a bit of a blow...but what did he do over the last 12 months to offend his friends? It's possibly because he abandoned everyone to follow his dreams of escaping the rat race, or possibly because he's somehow, overnight, turned into a middle-class jazz obsessive. Either way, as midnight strikes, we'll find out!
